Raising Hell
DRAMAIn Development
In 1885 a young girl travelled from Scotland to London to take up her post as governess for a respectable middle-class family. She never reached their home. Duped and betrayed on her arrival in the city, Jennie Wilson might have easily have become just one more statistic in a widespread network of abductions and sexual terror that flourished in the capital. But Jennie Wilson was unusual. Refusing to accept her fate, she managed to escape and tell her story to what was then, the most revolutionary social force of her age – the Salvation Army. Even so, had it not been for the intervention of William Stead, crusading journalist and barn-storming newspaper editor, her story might have stopped right there. As it was, it had hardly begun.
